Allison’s original review on Goodreads is here. This is a copy of that post.
This was a clever, moving tale about queer identity wrapped in a sci-fi package. I loved the twists and turns the story took and the complexity of the characters (TASA and Ember were two of my favourites). After a while, I realized where Ren was heading before he did, and I just wanted to yell at him to hurry up and accept his true self already, haha. The pressures from society were devastating to read about (but so realistic). The pacing of some of the chapters was a bit too slow for my taste, but this story will be sitting with me for a long time to come.
I read this as a judge for the Self-Published Science Fiction Competition (SPSFC5). This review is my personal opinion and doesn’t reflect the novel’s place in the contest. Thank you to the author for the e-copy!
